Universal Taste Story

Universal Taste Story

Founded in 1999 by Brazilian native Guilherme C. Moreira, Universal Taste was established with the mission of producing and supplying 100% pure organic nutrients, sourced from the wild, to markets around the world. As a passionate advocate for Amazonian superfruits, Guilherme began researching açaí — known to Amazonian natives as "The Milk of the Amazon" — along with other powerful fruits like camu-camu, buriti, and cupuaçu, two years before officially launching this Brazilian-founded U.S. company.

He discovered that açaí was one of the most powerful superfruits in the rainforest — loaded with antioxidants, Omega-3 and 6, essential fatty acids, calcium, vitamin E, and potent plant compounds like anthocyanins and polyphenols. Soon after, camu-camu was found to be nature’s richest source of vitamin C, offering up to 30 times more than acerola and 50 times more than oranges. With these remarkable discoveries, he set out to bring the benefits of these wild, nutrient-packed fruits to health-minded consumers around the world.

Guilherme recognized açaí as a daily essential in the Amazon, cherished by local communities and eventually adopted by Brazilian athletes for its natural energy and rich nutritional value. Motivated to bring this powerful superfruit to the U.S., he set out to create a product that combined clean energy with a strong commitment to sustainability. Just as important was his dedication to environmental responsibility — ensuring that açaí palms were harvested without damage and that native communities were respected, supported, and empowered throughout the process

Açaí Power brand was introduced to the U.S. market in 2001 as a frozen açaí sorbet. By late 2002, it began receiving enthusiastic feedback from American athletes and health-focused consumers drawn to its rich antioxidant content. Over time, it gained recognition in numerous health magazines and articles that praised both the nutritional benefits and the delicious taste of this exotic superfruit.

Açaí Power was also part of a larger sustainability initiative led by Guilherme, who aimed to engage key North American companies in a movement that combined environmental responsibility with human wellness. To build awareness and momentum, he showcased his project at major natural food trade shows, including Expo West (Anaheim, 1999–2000), Fancy Food Show (New York, 2000), Expo East (Baltimore, 2001–2002), and Supply Side West (Las Vegas, 2001–2002), among others in the years that followed. Guilherme invited influential brands like Naked Juice, SunOpta, Bossa Nova, Sambazon, Monavie, Frutzo, and Crofters to the Amazon Rainforest to experience firsthand his mission: preserving the ecosystem while studying the body’s nutritional needs and delivering organic, wild-sourced nutrients to consumers worldwide.

In late 2003, following research in food technology, Guilherme identified lyophilization (freeze-drying) as a crucial method for preserving essential nutrients in powdered form. This technique allowed Vitamin C, along with various antioxidants and other nutrients, to be transformed into freeze-dried powders as an alternative to frozen purée. He then partnered with Liotecnica, a company based in São Paulo, Brazil, to develop the first-ever organic açaí and camu-camu freeze-dried powders.

Today, we continue to grow our vision by supplying a diverse range of organic raw nutrients — sourced from the wild and delivered to the global market. Our products support juice manufacturers and nutraceutical applications, all produced under certified quality control standards to meet current market demands.
